Music class

Last Tuesday night we took Mya to this trial music class in Highland Park. Since Mya isn't in a day care, and doesn't interact with kids everyday, we wanted to get her into a class to let her play with kids her own age! I got this brochure in the mail and decided to bring her to the trial class. Here she is when we first got there.
When we walked in, she was little miss social butterfly. Walking up to all the other kids, she even kept kissing the 10 month old little girl. Laughing, walking around, playing with all the stuff in the room, was SO cute!!!!
Once the class started, she was the ONLY kid that didn't want to sit in her parents lap, which was fine, she was actually the life of the class, people were cracking up at her!!! The first 10-15 minutes was just sitting on the ground, singing songs, doing stuff like the itsy bitsy spider, making funny noises. Mya was just walking around, checking everyone out. At the end of the class the teacher pulled out these sticks for everyone to use to make noises by hitting them together, or on the ground. Well, since they started the opposite side of the room as us, Mya walked right over to the little kid in the front and took his!! OH NO, i thought, so the teacher handed Mya sticks. Mya didn't just want HER sticks, but she wanted everyones sticks!!! So, I had to bring her back to where Ry and I were sitting and try and distract her by hitting the sticks together, making noise, ANYTHING so she wouldn't steal the other kids!!! Luckily the sticks didn't last long. Than the teacher bought out a huge box of instruments and dropped them on the middle of the floor and told us to just let the kids play with whatever they wanted, to experiment with everything. Here, all the kids pick something, start rattling, banging, shaking whatever it is that they have. Mya is just scoping out what she wants to take next from the kids.

The poor 10 month old had no chance. Mya took her shaker, the drum, I kept taking them and telling Mya that there were SO many other toys WHY do you want hers?? I think Ry and I finally distracted her enough that the class was over.

After the class I was all excited, I did think it was cute and a good way to get her to learn how to start sharing and interacting with kids. Ryan thought otherwise and now I do have to agree. He thought that she needed something more active. SO, we have a trial class at Gymboree tonight. I'm actually REALLY excited for this one cause the instructor called me on Saturday to make sure that Mya was walking because this is a VERY active class. YESSS!!!! I'll let you know how her class goes tomorrow!!!!
